The Fiction Flyer Ezine TRI STUDIO BOOKS LLC www.tri-studio.com
The Fiction Flyer An ezine for both readers and writers
Description: Choose two characters from one of your stories or novels, or one character each from two of your stories or novels. They can be two protagonists, antagonists, or one of each. Select one of the scene openers or premises below, and create a conversation between them. Attention will be given to the strength and credibility of your characters. Unusual characters are welcome, but help us believe they are real. Keep them in character and true to themselves. Remember, while flash fiction is short, it still tells a story, so allow enough development to leave us with a feeling or sentiment. Make us laugh or cry! No profanity or obscenity. Here are the scene openers and premises:
a) Your first character is kneeling on shore and holding the lead rope to a flimsy rubber raft, which is churning in the wake of a rain-swollen river. Your second character sits in the boat, hanging on for life.
b) Your characters 20 to 50 years later: they meet randomly in a Laundromat.
c) The grown children of your two characters (who knew each other when they were much younger) randomly meet, fall in love, and become engaged. Your characters are invited to dinner by their children so that the two families can “get to know each other." Your characters have no idea they will be meeting each other.
d) Your two characters must compete for the same job.
e) You invent the scene opener or premise. Have fun!
There are no entry fees and multiple entries are accepted. There will be a first, second and third prize. Each winner receives a certificate; the first prize winner will receive $10 and the second and third place winners will receive $5 each. Winners’ stories will be featured in the July/August issue of The Fiction Flyer with a subscriber list of 1,000 readers.
Include the title of your book(s) or work from which your characters were originally created. Up to 1,000 words email entry or entries to Kathe Gogolewski.
