Dear Friends,

I hope this letter finds you and your families well.  I am writing to share with you
my commitment to running the Honolulu marathon on December 11, 2005.  That
means 26.2 miles, which is over four hours of running.  I know what you are
thinking… Why anyone would want to do such a thing when there is perfectly
good transportation available?  Believe me, I felt the same way (I actually still feel
that way, especially when my muscles cramp :) ) but for me this marathon is
about more than running from point A to point B…

I am running for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and more importantly for the
millions of people that have been affected by these deadly blood cancers.  As
part of Team-in-Training, an organization where I will receive the proper training
to complete the race, I am committed to not only crossing the finish line but also
raising $3400 to help the Society cure lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and
myeloma and improve the lives of patients and their families.  Unlike many other
non-profits, over 75% of the donations go directly to support patient care and
research for the Society.  In exchange for fundraising, TNT will provide me with
the support, training, and medical expertise to complete my goal of running
(gulp!) 26.2 miles.

Personally, I saw the effect of leukemia when a close friend of one of my friends
was diagnosed and passed away from acute leukemia in June of this year.  Kirk
was an outgoing, active, fun loving guy who was also a husband with two young
children- he was only 29 when he passed.  I thought that I was quite healthy and
immune to this kind of disease, but the reality is that every five minutes someone
in the United States learns that they have leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma.  It is
the number one killer of men and women under 35.  At Kirk’s funeral one very
important thing became clear to me: I don't believe we can take anything for
granted.  Life can change at any time; and I feel it is important to seize the
opportunity to make a difference when we can.

I invite you to share with me anyone in your life that has been affected by these
diseases. I would like to post a little bit about him or her on my web site and
make sure that this person's name is on my jersey when I run the race. These
people that have touched your lives personally will be my inspiration.  Even if
blood cancers have not affected you or someone you love, I truly appreciate your
support.

Will you help me reach my fund-raising goal of $3400 by October 31, 2005?  You
can donate online (the easiest way to donate) with a credit card by going to my
personal website which is
http://www.active.com/donate/tntgsf/roses99
Remember, all donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are 100% tax
deductible and you will receive a confirmation email with the tax ID number.

Thank you in advance for your support not only of me but the entire Team In
Training organization.  If you have any questions please call me: 415-722-6702
or email me at schneider.rose@gmail.com.

Best wishes,

Rose
