Note to Writers:
The links on this page are all active so you can work directly from it. Most will take you to the page
where you actually submit your media release. With a few, you have to register first, but you only need
to do it one time. I have seventeen sites listed in all, more than enough to get the word out! And these
are the best ones, combined from a list of mine with a list from Carolyn Howard-Johnson's published in
The Frugal Book Promoter
When you submit your release to these sources, you will be able to google your name with the results
after they come out. And they don’t go away. These articles stay in the archives of the media release
sites. You can pay if you want the release to appear higher up on their list the day it comes out, and for
some, paying means they submit your release to more search engines.
Formatting is not as important for an online release as it is when sending one by snail mail. The forms
at the online release sites make it easy for you. Essentially, aside from submitting your name and
contact information, they ask for a title or headline for your article, then a summary of a couple lines or
so describing an overview of the content, and finally the main body of the release. Don't forget to
include your links in the body of the release, as well. I do a lot of cutting an pasting from Microsoft Word
for the exercise and spend usually under a minute submitting to each site. Each time you submit a
different release, you will have a new link pointing to your site.
One of my favorites is PR Web. They allow you to click on your article in your free account area after it’s
been released to see how many people have accessed the article, measured by “click throughs." It also
tells you how many media outlets have accessed it as well. It even tells you how many people have
printed out a copy. When I sent out media releases for my fantasy adventure novel for upper grade
elementary children, TATO, I used PR Web. I was happily surprised to learn that within a few days of the
release, 45,000 people had clicked on the article, including 309 media outlets. The more media
releases you send out, the more links you have pointing back to your site. And one way links are the
best ones. It’s effective and easy. And F*R*E*E! * Note - PR Web is no longer a free service,
however, I still recommend them highly as an effective service.
